Yonkers Democratic Mayor Mike Spano declares victory against Mario De Giorgio

Incumbent Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano has declared victory against Republican challenger Mario De Giorgio Tuesday in his quest for a third term.

The two-term Democrat says the City of Hills has soared under his eight years of leadership, citing billions of dollars of economic development and historically low crime rates.

De Giorgio, who ran twice for City Council as a Democrat but lost, had hoped to gain office and tackle Yonkers' aging public schools.

Fixing the school system is a top priority for Mayor Spano.

The City Council also extended term limits from two to three.
