Earthquake shakes up Mamaroneck

Posted: Updated:

A small earthquake rocked Mamaroneck last night.

According to Columbia University, the 1.3 magnitude earthquake struck just after 8 p.m. Monday night.

They say the epicenter of the quake was near Hickory Grove Drive East and Jason Lane.

Fire officials confirm they received numerous calls about loud explosions, but could not find the source of the noise and shaking.

Residents in the area, even as far as Scarsdale, say they felt their home shake. "It sounded like a big thud actually.  Then my wife called and she said she was with a group of friends and the house they were in had shaken a bit," says one resident.

This is not the only recent earthquake to hit the Hudson Valley. A 1.1 magnitude earthquake struck right near the Palisades in West Nyack last Thursday.
