Retired Orange County judge accused of sexually abusing teenage girl

Posted: Updated:

A retired Orange County judge is accused of sexually abusing teenage girl in the 1970s.

The lawsuit filed last month claims Judge Jeffrey Berry began 'grooming' the victim at the age of 16 while he was teaching at Cornwall Central High School.

Other school staff members are also mentioned in the lawsuit and accused of not reporting the behavior.

The victim says the two had sex during her last two years of high school in Berry's car, parking lots, and in his bedroom.

Berry, a long-time Orange County Court judge and a former City of Newburgh judge, retired in 2015.

The lawsuit is one of hundreds filed under the state's new Child Victim's Act.
