Chopper stages dramatic rescue of hiker who fell 60 feet off cliff

Posted: Updated:

First responders used a helicopter to rescue a woman who fell 60 feet at Minnewaska State Park this past weekend.

Park officials say the 30-year-old woman fell “into a crevasse next to the cliff face of Gertrude's Nose trail” and was stranded for five hours with back and ankle injuries on Saturday.

Air support was called in from the state police, and the hiker was hoisted to safety from the cliff face.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. There is no word on her current condition.
