Officials: Mount Vernon couple undernourished newborn; face homicide charge

Posted: Updated:

A Mount Vernon couple has been charged in their child’s death more than a year after they first called 911 to report that she was unresponsive.

Shanelle Straker and Henry Lantigua are each facing a criminally negligent homicide charge in the death of 6-week-old Jessamine Lantigua.

The infant was rushed to Montefiore-Mount Vernon Hospital in May 2018 where she was pronounced dead. Officials say the newborn was emaciated and had a severe rash covering most of her body and her face.

The cause of death was determined to be undernourishment.
