A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that took the life of a retired West Point firefighter.

Police say Rene Morataya, 55, of Mount Kisco, was behind the wheel of his SUV Tuesday night in the Town of Highland and is accused of making an illegal U-turn on Route 9W, colliding with a motorcycle driven by George Guy.

The 62-year-old of Highland Falls was ejected from his bike and was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the crash, Morataya fled the scene in his heavily damaged SUV. Police eventually arrested Morataya on Crompond Road in Cortlandt.

Morataya has been charged with one count of leaving the scene of an incident which resulted in death, a class D felony.

He's currently being held on $20,000 cash bail.
