An Orange County fire department is raising awareness to post-traumatic stress disorder.

Fort Montgomery Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Faulk says PTSD isn't something people commonly associate with first responders, and that his department is looking to change that. The department created first responder PTSD T-shirts to raise awareness and stop the stigma that might prevent someone from getting help.

"Volunteers have big hearts. We don't want to see any of them stressed and feeling like they have nowhere to go," says Faulk.

For Fort Montgomery firefighters, the cause hits home. One of their own died by suicide several years ago.

"You're not alone. We're all in this together. You have a problem or an issue - let someone know," says Faulk.

The shirts cost $20 with proceeds going to the nonprofit organization Puppies Behind Bars. The money will help cover costs for inmate-trained PTSD service dogs for veterans and first responders.
