A Yonkers man accused of torturing and tossing a puppy from a truck will face animal cruelty charges next week, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office.
Approximately a year ago, Cleo was found with broken eye sockets, head trauma and broken bones in the Belmont section of the Bronx.
A family from New Jersey saw the story and felt compelled to adopt the beagle.
"When we brought her home, she ran through my house like a speeding bullet for like 20 minutes," said Tom Gallagher. "It was like bringing home a newborn with lots of excitement."
The Gallagher family was chosen among 60 applicants to be Cleo's new owners. They say she gets along with their other beagle, Penny, who's like a big sister to her.
