Caught on Video: Bears help themselves to breakfast at Rockland diner

Posted: Updated:

Some unexpected visitors with a big appetite showed up to a diner in Rockland County this weekend.

A pair of hungry bears didn't even ask to be seated as they rummaged for some snacks at the Mount Ivy Diner in Pomona Saturday morning.

Video of the bears was taken by a News 12 viewer.

Experts say attacks by black bears on people are very rare and most black bears can be easily scared away by making as much noise as possible by yelling, banging pots and pans or using other noisemaking devices. They say people should never run away from bears or approach them. After the bears leave, remove whatever attracted him to the location - barbecue grill, bird feeder, pet food or garbage.
