Yorktown Heights Kmart to close in November

Posted: Updated:

Kmart, a fixture in American retail, is continuing to struggle and will soon disappear in Yorktown Heights.

Kmart's parent company, Transformco, which also owns Sears, filed for bankruptcy in Oct. 2018, but plans to restructure haven't panned out. A reported 60 stores across the country are shutting down.

According to the state Department of Labor, the Yorktown Heights location is set to close Nov. 27, leaving 41 people without a job.

Transformco sent News 12 a statement about the closing, saying, "As we continue our transformation efforts, we are working closely with our stakeholders and evaluating our network of stores, operations and business strategy in order to stabilize the business and support a long term path to profitable success."

It is also promising to preserve as many jobs as possible.
