Former Middletown teacher admits to deleting messages he thought he was sending to teen
Posted: Updated:A former math teacher at Middletown High School has admitted to trying to cover up messages he thought he was sending to an underaged teen.
Jonathan Castell pleaded guilty to attempted tampering with physical evidence Thursday. The 46-year-old admitted to deleting conversations from his computer to hide that he was messaging a person he believed to be a 15-year-old girl.
The messages included one that read, "So any chance I can see a pic of you in your nice comfy bed?" and "This is a kinda strange question but if we did anything could u bring protection?"
As News 12 reported, Castell was arrested last year after video surfaced online showing him trying to meet the teen that police say he met on social media.
The sting operation was not setup by police, but by a network of adults who target child predators.
According to the Times Herald, Castell resigned from his teaching position at Middletown High School in June.
He is scheduled to be sentenced in December.
