Armed officers stationed at Mount Vernon schools

Posted: Updated:

Armed resource officers will now be at schools in Mount Vernon.

Mayor André Wallace says the move will increase safety and improve community policing.

He posted a message on Twitter saying the officers should help create trust and ensure a safe learning environment. “In an effort to increase #safety and to build a better #foundation for #community policing we are sending out our school resource officers to each school in the district. These officers are there to create #trust, provide #mentorship, and to ensure a safe learning environment!”

Mount Vernon schools opened on Wednesday.
