Police: Fake real estate broker scammed thousands of dollarsPosted: Updated:
A Tarrytown man is accused of pretending to be a licensed real estate broker and robbing renters of thousands of dollars.
Police say 59-year-old Ricardo Gonzalez used popular online listing services, like Craigslist, Zillow and Trulia, to find his victims in the Village of Irvington. He then allegedly requested money for what he said were "broker's fees."
Four victims in the Village of Irvington have come forward so far. Officials say his broker's fees ranged between $1,500 and $2,300.
Police believe some of those victims are targeted undocumented immigrants who are reluctant to come forward because of their status in the U.S.
Gonzalez faces fraud charges in four separate cases and remains in Westchester County jail pending bail.
He will return to Irvington Village Court on Sept. 9.
Officials are encouraging all potential victims to come forward.
