New Americans Corner assists immigrants hoping to become citizensPosted: Updated:
City libraries have become part of an initiative to help immigrants with citizenship questions.
The New Americans Corner was put together by the New York Public Library and the Mayor's Office of Immigration Affairs.
Its purpose is to service immigrants and give them the resources they need.
"We put this up several years ago to assist people in this community to find materials that will make it easier for them to navigate the bureaucracy of becoming a citizen," said Gary Makufka, an information assistant at the library.
Books on how to become a U.S. citizen, as well as forms and pamphlets are also available to the immigrant community in the New Americans Corner. There is also a toolkit with a DVD with instructions on how to become a citizen, as well as other multimedia tools.
