Water back to full service in river townsPosted: Updated:
Water is back to full service in a number of Westchester river towns after a water main break on Wednesday evening.
A spokesman for SUEZ Water say the break happened around 8 p.m. on Center Street in Ardsley near a CVS and Saw Mill River Road. They say 50% of Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry and Hastings experienced water issues.
Village officials say gushing water caused portions of the Center Street to buckle. Crews worked for hours to try and isolate a water main valve over on Route 9A to stop the water from flowing. "This is a relatively new water main. It was put in about three years ago. Unfortunately for the village of Ardsley, this road was just recently repaved so we're going to have to have that redone again," says Ardsley Mayor Nancy Kaboolian.
Some people in the area may have a brown tint to their water, but village officials say there is no need for customers to boil water.
The SUEZ spokesman says repairs, including putting in new pipe, have continued through the night and will hopefully be completed later today.
