An electrical fire broke out in Hawthorne at the location of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Monday evening.
Several fire departments responded to the scene at 7 p.m. on Old Saw Mill River Road, where a lightning strike is believed to have caused a transformer to catch fire.
The transformer is connected to a power plant that supplies electricity to a number of buildings at the Regeneron Complex. Officials say one building lost power.
"Maintenance crews from the power plant here shut the power off," says Hawthorne Asst. Fire Chief Joe Carpenteri. "We called in Con Ed just to make sure the power was shut off to the unit. The fire pretty much burnt itself out."
Fire officials say no one was injured. Representatives for Regeneron say there was minimal damage from the fire.
