Heat wave sets power usages records

YONKERS -

The heat wave that has gripped the tristate region has set power usages records.

Con Edison says New York City set a new all-time weekend record for peak usage yesterday when readings hit more than 12,000 megawatts.
Orange & Rockland Utilities says it set a record as well as peak demand readings reached just under 1,500 megawatts last night. Previously, the highest weekend electric demand day was August 13, 2016.

The heat is being blamed for thousands of power outages across the area, and utility companies say they still have crews working to restore electricity.

As a reminder - crews ask customers to continue to use electricity wisely.
