Cradle of Aviation’s Moon Fest celebrates Apollo 11 moon landing

There was a celebration at the Cradle of Aviation in East Garden City Saturday marking the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
Moon Fest celebrated the historic moment and Long Island's role in the lunar module's landing.
The module, which the astronauts used to get from their spaceship to the moon, was designed and assembled on Long Island at the Grumman facility in Bethpage.

Part of the event included a community countdown where a smaller replica of the lunar module was lowered down onto a simulated moon surface.
“It's a big opportunity for everyone to come together as a community and celebrate the most important achievement in human history,” says Andrew Parton, Cradle of Aviation president.
