The Sapphire Nursing at Meadow Hill in Newburgh is the latest facility to become the focus of a class action lawsuit.
A 61-page class action suit alleges that intentional understaffing at the nursing home is hurting patients. Relatives say patients are often left in soiled clothes with calls for help constantly unanswered.
One case reported in the lawsuit states that staff cuts and delays in delivering meals resulted in a patient being hospitalized after the person was given insulin without being fed.
The attorney who filed the suit released a statement saying, "Defendants' pursuit of profits over care left patients lying in their own urine and waste for hours at a time, among other indignities. This action seeks a court order that will make the nursing home safe."
The Newburgh facility is the fourth Sapphire location facing legal action.
Sen. James Skoufis says his office has received a number of complaints against Sapphire Nursing at Meadow Hill. He says the lawsuit is absolutely necessary.
Sapphire Nursing at Meadow Hill officials didn't return News 12's calls for comment.
The Department of Health is investigating.
