NYCLU on ICE raids: “People shouldn't have to live with that much fear”

WHITE PLAINS -

Statements by President Donald Trump have immigrant advocates concerned ICE agents will conduct raids in Westchester County.

The president said raids will be underway across the country, including New York, in the coming days.

The Lower Hudson Valley Chapter of the New York Civil Liberties Union is condemning the threat of raids. "It really creates an incredible amount of fear for a community that is obviously been targeted in a way that people shouldn't have to live with that much fear," says Shannon Wong, director of the Lower Hudson Valley chapter of NYCLU.

The NYCLU is calling on Westchester County Executive George Latimer to uphold the Immigration Protection Act -- which limits how much county law enforcement can help immigration authorities.

A spokesperson for Latimer says he is supportive of the county law and intends to fully comply with it as the county does with all other local laws.
