Surveillance video captures car smashing through restaurant window

SPRING VALLEY -

Surveillance video captured the moment a car smashed through the front window of a Jamaican restaurant in Spring Valley Monday morning.

Fire officials say an SUV crashed into the Island Spice Restaurant at 5 North Main St. just after 7 a.m.

"She was coming down Commerce Street to come to Main Street and over-judged the turn, and ended up in the building," says Spring Valley Fire Chief Ray Canario.

Canario says the driver luckily wasn't going fast and there was only one employee in the kitchen when the accident happened. Neither was injured.

"The counter and the furniture stopped it from going to the kitchen area," says Canario.

The driver was not issued any tickets.

The restaurant owners tell News 12 that a driver of another car crashed into their building just six months ago, but this accident caused a lot more damage. They say they will patch everything up and hopefully get back to business soon.
