Unique school partnership allows teachers to learn on the job

The Brooklyn Prospect Charter School has teamed up with NYU to prepare future teachers in New York City.
Under the program, Brannon O'Connor and Asija Bailey jumped right in to teaching under the guidance of a mentor. O’Connor is a math teacher and Bailey teaches science at Clinton Hill Middle School – one of four Brooklyn Prospect Charter Schools.
While a traditional route for a promising teacher would include getting a master’s degree away from a child’s classroom,  the Brooklyn Prospect/NYU partnership allows teachers to learn how to teach in a school environment. They also take a full order of online classes.
Brooklyn Prospect says the partnership allows them to keep their promise to students by providing inclusive schools with excellent teachers.
