PELHAM -

A prisoner escaped custody in Pelham while being transported to a different facility, New Rochelle police say.

Police say Isaiah Washington, 22, was being transported to a county jail in a minivan Friday by an employee of a youth center program in Mount Vernon.

They say that while in the minivan, Washington asked for his cuffs to be loosened. When the driver did it, Washington opened the door and took off with one cuff still on his wrist.

The employee who tried to stop Washington managed to grab his shirt but couldn't stop Washington from getting out the car.

There has not been word on Washington’s whereabouts or the crime he committed.
