WARWICK -

Two schools in Warwick are being honored by the U.S. Department of Education for their efforts to go green.

Warwick Valley Middle School and Sandfordville Elementary School are among three dozen schools nationwide receiving the "Green Ribbon" distinctions this year.

The award goes for reducing environmental impacts and costs while promoting environmental stewardship among students.

District officials say they're honored to receive the designation and understand the importance of being mindful of the environment while preparing students for the future.
