Investigators: Thieves used rocks to smash way into Dunkin’ DonutsPosted: Updated:
Investigators say two thieves used rocks to smash their way into a Dunkin’ Donuts overnight.
A police spokesman says they received a call of a break-in at the Dunkin' Donuts on North Broadway around 3:15 a.m. Thursday.
Investigators say two thieves first tried breaking through a side window, but then used rocks to smash the glass on the front door and front window.
When staff arrived, they found glass and rocks all throughout the store, and the drawers to the cash registers emptied.
Police cordoned off the area for several hours while they collected evidence. There are numerous surveillance cameras throughout the complex and the store.
An undisclosed amount of money was taken, but police are not giving any details about that.
According to police, no one was injured.
The staff was able to open for customers on time. It's a popular spot in the area, and customers were taken aback when they saw the busted door and heard about the break-in. "Very surprised to see it and sad that people need money that much that they've got to break in," says Elizabeth Wagner, of New Rochelle.
