GOSHEN -

An Orange County Sheriff's Deputy and his K9 partner took home second prize in a recent national competition.

Deputy Michael Muller and his 2-year-old German Shepherd mix, "Maverick," grabbed second place at the USPCA National Detector Trials.

The pair was up against 50 other K-9 teams and challenged to find narcotics in situations similar to those they may encounter on the job.b.

Muller says he was very excited to tell his boss. "At first he's like - you didn't crash the car did you? I was like, no sir. I just got back from the nationals and took second. So he was happy," says Muller.

Deputy Muller and Maverick were chosen to compete in the nationals after taking home the top spot in a regional competition last month.
