Six people who police say are MS-13 members are accused of plotting to kill two other gang members between August 2018 and January 2019.

The suspects range in age from 17 to 31 years old.

"MS-13 does not care who they hurt," said Suffolk Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart. "They only know violence and it is up to us to stop them."

Kevin Mejia Sandoval, also known as "Abuelo," is an alleged leader, or "homeboy," in what's known as the "Leeward clique." It's the same group allegedly responsible for the quadruple homicide in a Central Islip park in April 2017.

Since then, Hart says "the clique has been attempting to rebuild and take back their territory."

According to the new indictment, Sandoval reached out to gang leaders in El Salvador and got permission for his clique to kill a rival gang member and a fellow MS-13 gang member who was believed to be a "snitch." Once the "green light" was given, the members involved allegedly texted each other photos of the would-be victims and plotted to throw a Molotov cocktail under one victim's car. Suffolk District Attorney Tim Sini says they also tried to buy a gun.

Sini says all six defendants are in the U.S. illegally and that two of them had previously been arrested but were released on bond by an immigration judge.

Sandoval was extradited from Maryland on Friday and arraigned Monday in Suffolk County. He was held on $1 million bond.
