School: Student found on campus with BB gun

PORT JERVIS -

Police were called to a school in Orange County last week after a student was allegedly found outside with a BB gun.

School officials at Port Jervis Middle School say that incident unfolded on Friday during a student dance.

A letter was released to parents Monday saying that the student was reported to be outside the school with a BB gun while dozens of students were inside for the after-school function.

Police say the 12-year-old was not on school grounds when they arrived, however, their investigation found the student was on the grounds with the BB gun, but did not enter the building and didn't display or threaten anyone with the it.

School officials, however, that it is a serious violation of the district's code of conduct.

At this point, it's not clear why the student was on school grounds with the BB gun and what, if any, disciplinary action may have been taken against the 12-year-old.

Police have also not commented on whether or not the student was arrested.
