Police: Student charged with assaulting Newburgh teacher

Police have arrested a high school student for allegedly attacking a teacher on Friday.

According to police, the Newburgh officer stationed inside Newburgh Free Academy was notified of an apparent assault in the cafeteria. Officers arrested Terrance Melvin, 17, on assault charges. The teacher was rushed to the hospital.

The Newburgh Enlarged City School District declined to comment on the incident.
