Tuckahoe hands out 63 tickets at new trucker checkpoint

TUCKAHOE -

A new trucker checkpoint in Tuckahoe has netted 63 tickets for big rigs that pass through the small village.

Most of the tickets were for overweight trucks.

Officer James Kennedy, who heads the Traffic Safety Unit for the Tuckahoe Police Department, says putting a five-officer checkpoint on the Garrett Avenue thoroughfare could potentially save lives.

"They could be kicking back rocks and it goes through someone's windshield, cause a major accident,” says Kennedy.

His advice to truckers that exit off of I-87 through Tuckahoe is to make sure there are no issues with their rig.
