Police: 17-year-old fatally shot in Yonkers

A 17-year-old male was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon near South Broadway and Vark Street in Yonkers, police say.

Yonkers police arrived at the scene around 3 p.m. from reports of shots fired. The 17-year-old victim and another victim were just steps away from Saint Joseph's Hospital when the shooting happened.

Police say the 17-year-old died at the hospital. The other victim is in stable condition.

Witnesses describe the scene as chaotic as people started scrambling when they heard the shots.

"It was pretty scary," says Leslie Gonzales. "Everyone in the lobby was pretty scared in the hospital."

Those who heard the shots tell News 12 a fight broke out between teenagers just before the shots were fired.

Police urge any anyone with information about the incident to call Yonkers Police Detective Division at 914-377-7724.
