Police: Thief steals nearly $6,000 worth of jewelry from Scarsdale home

SCARSDALE -

Police are searching for the suspect who broke into a Scarsdale home on Woods Lane and stole thousands of dollars in jewels.

Detectives are hoping cameras from nearby homes captured an image of the person they say cracked a sliding glass door to get in the house. They say the suspect ransacked the master bedroom, ripping off an alarm box from the wall and escaping with roughly $6,000 worth of jewelry.

Neighbors are concerned since the crime happened at a time when people are coming home from work and eating dinner.

"It is distressing," says Jordan Copeland, of Scarsdale. "I grew up not locking my house door, not locking my car door and it doesn't feel good to be on edge."

Police say no one was home at the time of the incident. They also tell News 12 they believe the suspect left behind a flashlight. It's now being examined for fingerprints.
