PLEASANT VALLEY -

An Albany man was arrested earlier this month for allegedly possessing a stolen handgun, state police say.

Santiago Cruz, 40,  was pulled over for speeding on Jan. 16 at around 8:30 p.m. on the Taconic State Parkway in Pleasant Valley. That’s when police discovered he did not have a valid driver's license.

Police say they then found a stolen gun.

As he was being taken into custody, authorities say a struggle ensues and Cruz fled into a wooded area.

He was caught 45 minutes later and has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon and stolen property.

According to state police, Cruz was arraigned in Pleasant Valley Court where he was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $200,000 cash bail or $400,000 bond.
