Ex-Harrison Police Chief Marraccini pleads guilty to tax evasion
Posted: Updated:Former Harrison Police Chief Anthony Marraccini, a once popular and decorated top cop, pleaded guilty Wednesday to tax evasion at the Federal Courthouse in White Plains.
According to federal prosecutors, Marraccini failed to report more than $2.5 million in revenue from Coastal Construction, his home improvement business. They also say he failed to report income from rental properties he owned in Purchase and Rye.
Prosecutors say Marracini avoided paying more than $782,000 in federal income tax from 2011 through 2016. In court, Marracini also admitted to depositing checks made out to his business into his personal bank accounts.
Prosecutors allege Marracini also failed to pay nearly $120,000 in state taxes. According to his lawyers, Marraccini already has paid back the IRS, but not yet the state.
The IRS investigative division issued a statement that reads in part: "As the chief of police for the Town of Harrison, Anthony Marraccini held a position of trust in the eyes of the public. That trust was broken when he decided to commit a serious tax felony.”
Marracini served with the Harrison Police Department for nearly 30 years. He retired in 2016 just a couple of months after he was placed on paid leave for allegedly falsifying his timesheets.
The stipulated sentence guideline under his plea agreement calls for the former chief to spend anywhere from 24 to 30 months in prison. He's due back in federal court in mid-May for sentencing.
Marraccini had no comment upon leaving the courthouse.
