Hochul on shutdown: 'This is Donald Trump having a full-fledged temper tantrum'Posted: Updated:
Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul went on the offensive against President Donald Trump as the government shutdown continues into its third week.
Hochul was in Yonkers Monday talking about the second-longest shutdown in U.S. history as Trump stands firm on his demand for a multibillion-dollar border wall.
"He has to stop forcing this down the throat of our legislators and come to a reasonable solution so we can get workers back to their jobs," says Hochul. "This is Donald Trump having a full-fledged temper tantrum."
Meanwhile, as thousands of workers deemed essential are forced to work without pay, Trump insists he empathizes with them.
"I can relate and I'm sure that the people that are on the receiving end will make adjustments, they always do," says Trump.
Local lawmakers say compromise is key, but another round of talks over the weekend failed.
"Almost a million people are being impacted and all those people impact the lives of everyone else, so we need to get to a solution and we need it fast," says Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins.
This coming Friday would be the first time employees affected by the shutdown will not be see their usual paychecks.
