Wreaths Across America passed through Western Connecticut Tuesday.
Hundreds of thousands of hand-crafted wreathes are making their way to Arlington National Cemetery from Maine. The journey includes passing through parts of Fairfield and Norwalk.
The annual Wreaths Across America convoy arrived in Norwalk and received a big welcome. Members of the convoy arrived with flashing lights for a dinner at St. Ann's Club.
One gold star mother says having her son honored this way means so much.
The Wreaths Across America convoy departed Saturday from Columbia Falls, Maine, where the wreaths are made, and will stop at schools, memorials and veteran group gatherings along the 740-mile journey to Arlington, Virginia.
About 250,000 wreathes will make their way down to Arlington National Cemetery and be placed at the final resting place of active duty U.S. service members on Dec. 15.
Organizers say the tradition began when Maine wreath maker Morrill Worcester donated 5,000 wreaths to Arlington Cemetery. Since then, it's grown each year.
AP wire services contributed to this report.
