A day care owner is facing charges after two children under her care were found wandering by themselves on Jerusalem Avenue in Hicksville.
Graciela Castro runs Chella’s Childcare.
Police say Castro was arrested Monday after a 3-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy got out of the building through an unlocked gate.
A driver found the girl standing in the roadway, and the boy on the curb. Neither was injured.
Castro faces two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
State inspectors pulled the facility’s license and showed up Tuesday to make sure no kids were inside.
News 12 attempted to get a comment from Chella’s Childcare, but no one answered the door upon arrival.
