Bridgeport hosted a Bike to Work Day to encourage its bike-friendly initiatives and have residents seek alternative ways to commute.
The city teamed up with CTRides to host the Bike to Work Day.
Fifteen city employees rode along the Pequonnock River Bike Trail, beginning at the Parks and Recreation Building and ending at City Hall Annex.
Mayor Joe Ganim says biking is not only great exercise but good for the environment, and wants more people to take advantage of the trail.
He says the city will be adding more bike lanes downtown and higher traffic areas.
Similar to Hartford and New Haven, Bridgeport will soon have its own bike share program as well.
The Pequonnock Trail is currently being expanded to serve more people in Bridgeport, Trumbull and Monroe.
