Popular Westchester trails getting funds for improvements

Posted: Updated:
TARRYTOWN -

A couple of popular Westchester County trails are set to get a cash infusion for some much-needed improvements.

Potholes, cracks and uneven pavement are just some of the complaints local leaders have received about the North County Trailway. Some areas have been washed out by storms.

Both the North and South County trailways are getting makeovers. The Westchester County Board of Legislators approved $8.7 million to repave the north trailway, which runs about 22 miles to the Putnam County border. The south trailway was approved for $300,000 to come up with a design to fix some problems.

The money is coming from the capital budget, which County Executive George Latimer says is part of the operating budget. Construction is expected to start on the North County Trailway next spring.
