The latest Quinnipiac Poll has Democrat Ned Lamont ahead of Republican Bob Stefanowski by eight points.
According to the poll, Lamont scored 22 points higher among women.
"This is definitely a big gender gap," says Douglas Schwartz, Quinnipiac Poll director.
Those who conduct the polls say this is hardly a slam dunk. They say both candidates are deeply unpopular.
Political analyst Gayle Alberda says what it comes down to is that the public doesn't like either candidate. Alberda, who is a former Republican operative, says Stefanowski can easily catch up especially since Connecticut residents say the economy is their top issue.
The poll also found that a fifth of voters said they could change their minds.
"As we near Election Day, we expect a significant number of voters to switch their support to Stefanowksi as they begin to take a closer look at Ned Lamont's plans to increase the burden on the middle class," says Kendall Marr, a spokesperson for the Stefanowski campaign.
Independent candidate Oz Griebel jumped 11 percent in the polls.
