Shots fired during brawl in Cortlandt

CORTLANDT -

Shots rang out during a birthday party brawl at a catering hall in Cortlandt Manor this weekend.

State police say the violence started at the Colonial Terrace on Oregon Road and then spilled into the parking lot, where numerous fights broke out.

Peekskill Mayor Andre Rainey was at the birthday party for a friend of his when state police say a fight broke out around 1 a.m. Sunday at the hip-hop-themed celebration. Rainey says his friend was the one who was shot and that he wasn't the intended target.

“He's one of those people who you never hear anything bad about. According to him, he was just walking to his car when the gunshot hit him,” says Rainey.

Sources tell News 12 they know who fired those shots and have already sent names to state police. They also say that the altercation involved two men fighting over a girl.

Rainey says his friend is recovering and ready to come home, and he's holding out hope police will find who shot him.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (914) 737-7171.
