CROTON-ON-HUDSON -

A former Croton-on-Hudson fire chief has pleaded guilty to stealing funds while on the job.

Gerald Munson, 64, admitted to stealing more than $300,000 while serving as treasurer of the department's fire council.

He was able to conceal his theft by manipulating the department's bank records and using the fire department's debit card as his own. Munson was charged with grand larceny and is expected back in court in October.

Munson faces up to four years in prison.
