Senate candidates stump for votes ahead of primary

Posted: Updated:
YONKERS -

Westchester Legislator Virginia Perez and challenger Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins spent the final hours before the primary election on the campaign trail.

Both are running for a Senate seat in District 35.

Perez knocked on doors in South Yonkers, while Stewart-Cousins campaigned Wednesday morning alongside Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Stewart-Cousins is the Senate minority leader and has the support of labor union, local and state Democratic leaders, while Perez is a political outsider.

Perez pushed voters to put new blood in Albany to - in her words - give government back to the people.

Stewart-Cousins is banking on her track record as one of the most influential state officials from the lower Hudson Valley to get her on the ballot for the general election in November.
