Woman sentenced for animal cruelty

GOSHEN -

An Orange County woman will be spending the next two years behind bars after being sentenced for animal cruelty.

Jeanne Ryan, 52,  was found guilty last month on 10 felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals in connection with the death of nine horses and the mistreatment of a 10th horse, which survived.

She was also found guilty on 10 misdemeanor counts of overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals for underfeeding the same animals.

The remains of the animals were found in her barn at Argus Farm on Gate Schoolhouse Road in Goshen.

A sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 2 to determine whether she owes restitution. If awarded, that money would go to the equestrian center that saved the life of Shamus, the horse that survived the ordeal.
