Yonkers students head back to school

YONKERS -

Thursday was the first day of school for kids in Westchester's largest city.

The students will see some big changes in the school system this year, especially when it comes to sports.

This year, the eight city high schools merged together to make two varsity and junior varsity football teams called The Yonkers Brave and The Yonkers Force.

MORE: BACK-TO SCHOOL

The Brave includes students from Lincoln and Riverside high schools, Saunders Trades & Technical High School and Palisade Prep School.

The Force is made up of students from Gorton and Roosevelt high schools, Yonkers Montessori Academy and Yonkers Middle High School.

Coaches say although it will be exciting, there will growing pains since there will be students who have never played on the same team. The two teams will face off against each other next month.
