An out-of-control car ran over and killed a 61-year-old grandmother in Mount Vernon on Monday.
Police say Patricia Mackey was walking home from work on South Ninth Avenue near First Street around 6 p.m. when she was fatally struck. They say a Honda jumped the curb while in reverse, hit Mackey, dragged her through a brick wall and pinned her under the car.
Emergency responders had to jack up the car in order to pull Mackey out. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the car stayed on the scene and was not injured. Police are still trying to figure out how the car ended up in reverse.  No tickets or charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
