Gov. Dannel Malloy discussed the state of Connecticut schools Wednesday during a back-to-school meeting for superintendents in Hartford.

He presented areas where the school systems are thriving along with other areas that need improvement. 

Malloy highlighted the state’s seven-year streak of increasing the graduation rate.

However, there is one change the governor hopes to see. 

"Too few young women and female students are concentrating in the areas where we know our jobs of the future are growing," said Malloy. "Again go back to math, go back to science, go back to engineering, these are things that we absolutely have to concentrate on if we're going to spread the wealth."

Malloy says it's important to push further education to allow the state to continue its annual job growth.
