A girl’s camp in Prospect Heights is using the stage for more than just theater this summer.
Shake It Out, a free theater program open to girls ages 12 to 17, is using movement to express emotions at St. Joseph's Parish.
The program, created by Noreen Yarwood, started as a safe place for girls to talk and act out the pressures they face from beauty standards, to social media and the importance of having strong friendships.
Yarwood says the camp received a $2,500 grant from the Brooklyn Arts Council.
The campers will take what they learned and create an original play to perform at the end of the week.
