New Rochelle community members, activists debate relocation of family court

A meeting in New Rochelle was held to consider moving the family court to a new location.
Community members and activists say they do not welcome the New Rochelle family court into their neighborhood on Pelham Road.
Officials want to repurpose the old A&P store as the new location.
Neighbors say they worry about traffic and the ability of people to reach the site as there is only one bus stop in the area.
"We definitely want additional services for young people which will be afforded in the space right here at the A&P. That's a commercial property. It has adequate space, it has adequate parking," says Dr. Carla Woolbright of the New Rochelle NAACP. "I'm not sure what the issues are that people are so afraid of having other people coming to their community. They're talking about they won't be able to go to the bank safely or ride the bus safely and I don't think that those feelings are founded in this situation."
The county's judicial branch will make the ultimate decision when it comes to the new location for the new Rochelle Family Court.
