The former head of the “Justice for Junior” foundation – a group that accepted donations through Paypal after a 15-year-old was murdered outside of a Belmont Bodega – has been arrested, police say.
Kenny Young was charged with disorderly conduct Wednesday after police say he got into a dispute with a crowd protesting the reopening of the bodega where Lesandro "Junior" Guzman-Feliz was killed back in June.
Young was issued a summons, according to police. He can be seen being handcuffed outside the bodega in a video posted to Instagram.
Young was also seen going on the defensive after he was challenged by the mother of the slain teen in a Facebook video posted by PIX11.
The embattled foundation leader took to his own Facebook page after the incident and allegedly made remarks that he was removing the name “Junior” from his foundation.
Young tells News 12 that he started the foundation with plans to have Junior’s family involved as members of the board of directors, but given the recent backlash, he says that he plans to continue his community outreach under a different name.
The changes come incidentally as the City Council has begun investigating fraudulent foundations, but Young assures News 12 that he is not profiting from any of his foundation’s fundraising.
